The Claims Conference, based in New York, said Thursday that Rose Girone, who was thought to be the oldest Holocaust survivor, had died. Girone, who was born in Poland in 1912, passed away on Monday, according to a post on the website of the NGO that negotiates compensation for Holocaust survivors social media. She passed away in a nursing home in Bellmore, New York, according to US network CNN. "She was a resilient and powerful woman. She found ways to make the worst of bad circumstances. She was really sensible and level-headed. From infancy on, I could always count on her to help me solve problems," Reha Bennicasa, Girone's daughter, said of her. "Her life was a testimony of survival and strength," the Israeli embassy in Berlin stated.
