JD Vance says, "I look to Brussels where EU commissars warn citizens that they intend to shut down social media during times of civil unrest the moment they spot what they've judged to be, quote, hateful content, or to this very country where police have carried out raids against citizens suspected of posting anti feminist comments online as part of, quote, combating misogyny on the Internet, a day of action."
Not a valid attachment ID.
"I consider Sweden, where a Christian activist was found guilty by the authorities two weeks ago of taking part in Koran burnings that led to the murder of his friend. Furthermore, as the court in his case chillingly pointed out, Sweden's laws purporting to safeguard free expression actually do not give people a permission to do or say whatever they choose anything without running the risk of upsetting the group that feels that way." "And perhaps most concerningly, I look to our very dear friends, The United Kingdom, where the backslide away from conscience rights has placed the basic liberties of religious Britons in particular in the crosshairs."

"A little over two years ago, the British government charged Adam Smith Connor, a 51 year old physiotherapist and an army veteran, with the heinous crime of standing 50 meters from an abortion clinic and silently praying for three minutes, not obstructing anyone, not interacting with anyone, just silently praying on his own." And when British police noticed him and asked him what he was praying for, Adam said simply that it was for his unborn son and his ex-girlfriend had already given birth years earlier. The officers were unmoved now. Within 200 meters of an abortion facility, Adam was found guilty of violating the government's new buffer zones rule, which makes quiet prayer and other activities that can sway someone's decision illegal. He was ordered to reimburse the prosecution for thousands of pounds in legal fees.
"Now, I wish I could claim that this was an isolated incident, a bizarre instance of a poorly drafted legislation being applied to one individual. However, no. The Scottish government started sending letters to residents whose homes were located within so-called safe access zones in October of last year, just a few months ago, alerting them that even private prayer in their own homes may equate to breaching the law. The government, of course, encouraged readers to report any people suspected of thoughtcrime.
I worry that free expression is eroding in Britain and throughout Europe. "And in the interest of comedy, my friends, but also in the interest of truth, I will admit that sometimes the loudest voices for censorship have come not from within Europe but from within my own country, where the prior administration threatened and bullied social media companies to censor so called misinformation." "Our own government promoted false information, such as the notion that the coronavirus most likely originated in a Chinese laboratory, to intimidate private enterprises into keeping quiet about what turned out to be a clear and unmistakable fact. So I'm here today  not only with a remark, but also with an offer.

"The Trump administration will do exactly the opposite, and I hope that we can cooperate on that, just as the Biden administration was determined to quiet people for voicing their opinions. The town of Washington has a new sheriff. And whether or not we share your opinions, we will fight to protect your ability to voice them in public under Donald Trump's leadership."
