Police in Toronto are investigating a smash-and-grab at a jewellery store in the Golden Mile neighbourhood of Scarborough.

Police and emergency crews are on scene at Golden Mile Plaza in Scarborough  after a  hammer was used to break into a jewelry  store. Toronto police are investigating a  theft at a jewelry store in Scarborough's Golden Mile area.
The incident happened at  the Golden Mile Shopping Centre,  located at the northeast corner of Eglinton Avenue East and Victoria Park  Avenue.
Toronto police said they  responded to the area  shortly after 3:30 p.m. after receiving multiple reports  that suspects  had used a hammer to  break a jewelry  store window.
The suspects  left the area in a vehicle in an unknown  direction. A man who runs a  nearby store in the  mall told CTV News Toronto  that he heard banging and glass breaking at the time of the  robbery.
He then saw the suspects running and security chasing them, as well as civilians trying to  help.
"It's just  disappointing and scary, and innocent people are  scared because they  don't want to see  this," the man told CTV  News.
He also said he  thought he saw what  appeared to be a replica  gun and at least two  hammers.
Other witnesses  said three suspects  broke the  window of a Daniel  Jewelry kiosk  that was located in the  lobby across from a dollar store in the  mall. It is  not yet known how many items  were stolen.
It is not  yet clear at this  stage if  there are any injuries.
The shopping centre remains open  while police continue  to investigate.
