'Just made up my mind': On Feb. 29, 1984, Pierre Elliott Trudeau announced his resignation as Canada's prime minister.
Following his inauguration as prime minister, he barely lost the 1979 election but won the 1968, 1972, and 1974 elections. Soon after, in 1980, he won a fourth election, and just before the 1984 election, he finally left politics.
