South Korea's President Yoon Suk Yeol has vowed to "fight to the end" in the face of attempts to impeach him and intensifying investigations into his martial law decree. In a televised statement, Yoon defended his decision to declare martial law as an act of governance, denying rebellion charges.

Yoon's comments came hours before the main liberal opposition Democratic Party submitted a new impeachment motion against him. The party has accused Yoon of abusing his power and violating the constitution by declaring martial law.

The martial law decree, which was declared on December 3, has generated widespread controversy and protests. The decree brought hundreds of armed troops to the National Assembly, but it was lifted after only six hours when the National Assembly unanimously voted it down.

Yoon has accused the opposition party of being "anti-state forces" and sympathizing with North Korea. He has also claimed that the deployment of troops to the National Assembly was designed to maintain order, not to dissolve or paralyze it.

The opposition party has dismissed Yoon's statement as "an expression of extreme delusion" and "a declaration of war against the people." The party has vowed to focus on getting the impeachment motion passed on Saturday.

Yoon's fate remains uncertain, with the Democratic Party and smaller opposition parties holding 192 seats combined, eight votes short of a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly. If Yoon is impeached, his presidential powers would be suspended until the Constitutional Court decides whether to remove him from office or restore his powers.

The situation has sparked widespread protests and calls for Yoon's resignation. The international community is closely watching the developments, with many expressing concern over the implications of Yoon's actions for South Korea's democracy.

In related news, Yoon's former defense minister, Kim Yong Hyun, was arrested on allegations of playing a key role in a rebellion and committing abuse of power. The national police chief and the head of Seoul's metropolitan police have also been detained while their actions are investigated.
