Despite having normal thyroid levels, users reported considerable bone density loss over a six-year period, according to a study of 445 participants, who were on average 73 years old. Researchers caution that 90% of users may not require it, and that it is frequently overprescribed. Ten million Americans suffer from osteoporosis, which causes fractures and early mortality.
