Will Bulgaria and Romania join Schengen in full in January? Hungary declared that, subject to a final decision at the EU interior ministers' conference in December, Romania and Bulgaria might join Schengen as full members in January 2025. Despite EU judgments that they meet all conditions, Austria continues to oppose the two countries, who have been partially in Schengen since March, over land crossings. 

Romania has referred to Austria's worries as unfounded, pointing to statistics that indicate the majority of illegal migration originates in the Western Balkans. Reuters is the source.
