2 killed, 9 wounded in shootings in New Orleans near parade route

NEW ORLEANS: Two individuals were murdered and nine others were injured in two separate shootings along a parade route on Sunday, according to authorities, and New Orleans police were looking into the incident.

Eight people were located with gunshot wounds by officers who responded to reports of gunshots along an avenue in the St. Roch neighbourhood just after 3:30 p.m., the New Orleans Police Department said in a news release. In an unidentified condition, all eight were admitted to the hospital.

About half a mile (.8 km) to the north, on the same avenue, police got another complaint of gunfire approximately forty-five minutes later. According to the news release, one individual passed away at the site, while another passed away in a hospital According to authorities, a third victim was transported in a private vehicle to a hospital and is in stable condition.

According to police, the shootings happened near a "second line," which is a celebration that takes place after a march.

There were no reported arrests.
