Ransomware is blamed for the cybersecurity incident at the Calgary Public Library

Although officials have blamed a recent ransomware assault for the issue, the Calgary Public Library stated that its technology services are currently unavailable at all of its sites.

In a Friday update, officials stated that while their cybersecurity team was looking into the issue, they had discovered evidence of an attack, but that it had been halted.



In the announcement, officials stated, "We proactively shut down all servers and systems as part of our containment protocols."

"The library has not been in communication with any threat agents."



The Calgary Public Library on October 11. A cybersecurity breach caused it to close all of its locations early.

Following the incident, the library's computers and servers were shut down to safeguard the personal information of its patrons.



On Wednesday, October 16, the library locations reopened, but the computer systems remain unusable.

Officials stated in the most recent report that they are still trying to ascertain whether the attackers had access to any of that data.

"We are committed to reporting any impact to privacy as soon as we know more."
