Ongoing Hazardous Materials Incident in Manchester Industrial Area

Public Safety Measures in Place

The Calgary Police Service and Calgary Fire Department are currently managing a situation involving hazardous materials in the Manchester Industrial area. To ensure public safety, several roads in the vicinity have been closed, including intermittent closures on Macleod Trail throughout the day. Incident Background

At approximately 12 p.m. on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, the Calgary Police Service Tactical Unit responded to a report of a suspicious package in the Manchester Industrial area. Following a coordinated assessment with the Calgary Fire Department, it was determined that the package was delivered to the wrong location and contains unstable materials that cannot be safely relocated.

Controlled Detonations and Evacuation Zone

To mitigate the hazards associated with relocating the materials, the Tactical Unit has decided to implement procedures to secure the materials through a series of controlled detonations on site. This process will commence this morning, and an evacuation zone has been established as indicated on the provided map. Residents are advised to avoid this area to ensure their safety.
