The commissioning of the leather processing and manufacturing hub in Mushin, Lagos-Nigeria by the First Lady, Her Excellency Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is a significant step towards empowering women and young people in the community. Naming the facility after her underscores her commitment to social investment and empowerment initiatives. The hub is designed to provide 10,000 direct jobs, with 70% reserved for women and young individuals, and will positively impact over 150,000 artisans across Lagos.

The establishment of this hub is a strategic move to boost local production and reduce the export of raw materials by enabling the processing and manufacturing of leather goods such as shoes, bags, belts, and garments within the country. This not only adds value to the local economy but also helps in creating a brand identity for 'Made in Lagos, Made in Nigeria' products.

The long-term goal is to generate over $250 million in annual export earnings, contributing significantly to the nation's GDP. However, the real triumph will be seen in the lives of the local artisans and entrepreneurs, such as the cobblers, tanners, and designers, who will benefit from the increased job opportunities and access to a larger market. This initiative exemplifies the promise of Lagos, offering economic growth through sustainable and inclusive industrialization.
