The Calgary Police Service is seeking assistance from the public in connection with a recent investigation that led to the seizure of a firearm, a conducted energy weapon, and a significant quantity of drugs in the communities of Prestwick, New Brighton, and Copperfield.

On Sunday, August 10, 2025, investigators responded to a report of suspicious activity in the area, which culminated in the arrest of a 26-year-old woman, Samara Marie ASTALNOK. The incident began at approximately 3:40 a.m. on Monday, August 11, 2025, when officers responded to a suspected car prowling in the 1100 block of Prestwick Close S.E. During a subsequent search of the area, officers located a vehicle with a mismatched license plate and found ASTALNOK asleep in the back seat. Upon waking her, officers determined that she was in breach of release conditions and took her into custody.

A thorough search of the vehicle yielded a significant haul of illegal items, including:

 A Churchill shotgun
 Shotgun shells
 A replica handgun
 A conducted energy weapon
147.5 grams of fentanyl, cocaine, and methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of over $17,000
 Drug trafficking paraphernalia
 2 cellphones
A number of items believed to be stolen property

As a result of the investigation, ASTALNOK is facing 13 charges, including possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of an unlicensed weapon, unauthorized possession of a weapon, careless storage of a firearm, tampering with the serial number of a firearm, failure to comply with a release order, possession of an identity document, and possession for the purpose of trafficking.

ASTALNOK has been remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, August 27, 2025.

The Calgary Police Service is now seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the communities of Prestwick, New Brighton, and Copperfield between the late evening of Sunday, August 10, and the early morning of Monday, August 11, 2025.
