CBC explanation detail an incident where a 12-year-old boy and a group of other children set up a "catch a predator" scheme using Snapchat. The boy intentionally got into the suspect's car to allow the others to record the interaction and gather evidence. However, the situation escalated when the suspect drove away with the child, leading to an actual abduction. The boy managed to escape when the car stopped at a red light and called the police.

The suspect, a 37-year-old man from Calgary, has been charged with several serious offenses, including abduction, sexual interference, invitation to sexual touching, kidnapping, forcible confinement, and breaches of a prohibition order. The accused has been remanded into custody and will appear in court in Airdrie, Alberta.

The use of social media platforms, such as Snapchat, to confront and expose predators has become a topic of discussion and concern. While the intentions of the children involved were to protect themselves and potentially others, this situation highlights the risks and potential dangers of such actions. It is generally advised for individuals, especially children, to report suspicious behavior to authorities rather than engaging with potential predators directly
