East of Calgary, a burned body discovered by a road leads a homicide investigation: RCMP


The death of a person whose burnt body was discovered by emergency personnel on the side of a road east of Calgary early on Wednesday is being looked into by the RCMP's serious crimes team.

Police stated in a news release that although an autopsy will be place in Calgary on Thursday, they think the deceased was a victim of a homicide.

At 1:35 a.m. on Wednesday, the RCMP reports that someone reported witnessing a fire in the vicinity of Township Road 233 and Highway 791 while driving by.

A police spokesman acknowledged that the body was first observed burning in a ditch but added that the fire was extinguished before officers arrived at the scene, there was no car.

"Those who may have dash-camera footage and were in this area between 12:30 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. are asked to assist the RCMP," the police stated. "The RCMP is also looking to speak with anyone who was travelling on Highway 560, west of the Glenmore and Stoney Trail overpass, between those times and has dash-camera footage."
