The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has assured distressed overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) staying in an immigration facility in Lagos, Nigeria of necessary assistance and support.

The assurance was given during a visit by Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac and Ambassador Mersole Mellejor from the Philippine Embassy in Abuja, who met with around 40 OFWs, including a new mother who recently gave birth to a baby girl with a Chinese father. The baby, named Kiera, serves as a symbol of hope and the government's commitment to protecting and assisting its citizens abroad.

Upon their return to the Philippines, the repatriated individuals will be provided with immediate welfare assistance and reintegration services as part of the whole-of-government approach advocated by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. The DMW is collaborating closely with the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) and the Philippine Embassy in Abuja to ensure that all legal and humanitarian needs of the affected workers are met.

Nigerian Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) El Anugwa praised the behavior of the Filipinos, stating that they are among the most well-behaved foreigners in the country and have a positive reputation for being calm and respectful. This visit underscores the government's efforts to safeguard and support its overseas workers, regardless of their circumstances.
