As wildfires continue to ravage Newfoundland and Labrador, our thoughts are with the affected communities and first responders working tirelessly to combat the flames. I want to express my deepest gratitude to the members of the Canadian Armed Forces and Canadian Coast Guard who are on the ground, delivering essential supplies and providing crucial firefighting assistance. Additional support is en route to aid local efforts, and we are committed to providing any further assistance required to ensure the safety of Canadians.

In a recent discussion with Premier Hogan, I reiterated the federal government's unwavering commitment to supporting the people of Newfoundland and Labrador during this difficult time. To those affected, please know that we stand with you and are dedicated to providing the necessary support to mitigate the impact of these devastating wildfires.

On a separate note, I was appalled to learn of the unprovoked assault on a young Muslim woman on public transit in Ottawa yesterday, which included hateful and Islamophobic threats. I want to assure the victim and the broader Muslim community that such acts of hate and violence are utterly unacceptable in our country. The individual responsible must be held accountable, and I offer my sincerest solidarity to the victim. No one should ever feel unsafe while traveling to work or school in their community. We will continue to work towards creating a society that values inclusivity, respect, and equality for all.

Sincerely,
The Prime Minister of Canada
