Canada Steps Up Humanitarian Efforts in Gaza with Air Drop of Critical Aid

In response to the alarming humanitarian crisis in Gaza, the Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) has successfully conducted an air drop of vital aid, delivering 21,600 pounds of life-saving supplies to the region. This critical intervention is part of Canada's efforts to address the pressing humanitarian needs of Palestinians, who are facing unprecedented challenges due to restricted access to aid and essential services.

The CAF's CC-130J Hercules aircraft played a crucial role in this operation, which was facilitated by the Government of Jordan. This exceptional measure was necessary due to the severe restrictions imposed by the Israeli government, which have hindered the delivery of humanitarian aid by land. Canada strongly condemns this obstruction of aid, which is a violation of international humanitarian law, and urges the Israeli government to guarantee safe and unimpeded access for humanitarian organizations.

Canada's commitment to promoting peace and stability in the region remains unwavering. In addition to this latest air drop, the Government of Canada has announced significant funding allocations to support the humanitarian needs of Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. These efforts include logistical support, scaling up delivery of assistance, and providing critical supplies to vulnerable populations.

Ministers Anita Anand and David McGuinty reiterated Canada's call for a two-state solution, which remains the only viable pathway to a just and lasting peace in the region. Canada will continue to work closely with international partners to intensify efforts towards this goal.

With over $355 million committed in international assistance since October 2023, Canada is dedicated to supporting the humanitarian and resilience needs of Palestinian civilians. This latest air drop operation demonstrates Canada's readiness to respond to emerging crises and its commitment to promoting peace, stability, and humanitarian assistance in the region.
