Pio Tikoduadua, the President of the National Federation Party and the current Minister for Defence and National Security, has expressed his views on the role of the Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) in politics. At a recent NFP Working Committee Meeting at Ba Sangam College, Tikoduadua emphasized that it is inappropriate for any politician to exploit the RFMF for personal political gains. He referenced past instances where the military had been involved in political upheaval, particularly under the leadership of former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Tikoduadua commended the current RFMF leadership, led by Commander Major General Ro Jone Kalouniwai, for their commitment to public service, the rule of law, and civil authority. He highlighted the importance of maintaining a military that is loyal to the country and its citizens rather than to individual politicians.

The NFP, under his guidance, aims to ensure that the military remains a non-partisan institution focused on national development. He stressed that their party is dedicated to making tough decisions for the betterment of the nation, not for their own interests. This statement underscores the party's commitment to upholding democratic principles and the separation of powers in Fiji's governance.

This stance is significant as it reflects a growing concern among political leaders in Fiji regarding the potential misuse of military power for political purposes. It also reinforces the need for a clear delineation between the roles of the military and civilian government to prevent future coups or interference in democratic processes.
