Court Jails Businessman for Three Years for N2.3m Fraud in Maiduguri

A Borno State High Court in Maiduguri, presided over by Justice Muhammad Maina, has sentenced a businessman, Alhaji Mala Gana, to three years in prison for criminal misappropriation of N2.36 million. The case was brought against him by the Maiduguri Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on a one-count charge dated March 19, 2025.

Gana was found guilty of dishonestly misappropriating funds entrusted to him by one Alhaji Goni Umar for the supply of groundnuts and palm oil. According to the charge, the accused committed the offense in 2022, which is in contravention of Section 311 of the Penal Code Act of Borno State, and is punishable under Section 312 of the same law.
