Earlier today, Prime Minister Carney had a call with President Zelenskyy to discuss the recent developments in Ukraine. The Prime Minister condemned, in the strongest possible terms, Russia's brutal attack on Ukraine's Southeastern region last night, which has resulted in significant human suffering.

On behalf of the Canadian government, Prime Minister Carney extended heartfelt condolences to the Ukrainian people for the loss of life and damage caused by this senseless act of aggression. Canada remains resolute in its commitment to supporting Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity. To this end, our country is providing sustained financial, military, and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

Notably, we have introduced a new package of sanctions targeting Russia's shadow fleet and energy revenues, in addition to providing $2 billion in new military aid and a $2.3 billion loan to support Ukraine's infrastructure and public systems reconstruction efforts. These measures demonstrate Canada's steadfast dedication to promoting a just and lasting peace in Ukraine.
