The Nigeria Police Force has announced the arrest of additional gun runners and the recovery of a substantial cache of weapons and ammunition in the ongoing fight against banditry in Benue State. Following a fierce gun battle, operatives of the Federal Intelligence Response Team (FIR-IRT) successfully intercepted a notorious arms supply syndicate in a forest between Kardako, Nassarawa State, and Yelwata, Benue State, resulting in the seizure of two General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs).

Subsequent operations have led to the apprehension of Abubakar Isah, 25, found with three AK47 rifles and 1002 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition. His arrest was made possible by intel indicating an imminent arms delivery to Dan Hassan, a bandit leader known for coordinating violent attacks across Benue, Nasarawa, Kogi, Niger, and Kwara States.

Further investigations have linked Ibrahim AKA Chelsea to the syndicate, leading to the arrest of Jacob Adikwu, the purported arms dealer in Abinsi, Guma Local Government area of Benue State. A total of eight (8) AK-47 rifles, one rocket launcher, and 2222 rounds of live ammunition have been recovered from him.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has commended the officers involved and emphasized the Force's commitment to ending the activities of such criminal elements. He also assured the public that efforts are underway to bring the masterminds behind these violent acts to justice as mandated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The police will continue to intensify their operations to ensure peace and security in Benue State and across Nigeria.
