Alhaji Atiku Abubakar has accused President Bola Ahmed Tinubu of triggering an economic crisis with the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy, which has led to widespread inflation and hardship for the average Nigerian.

He also criticized the government for not fulfilling its promise to pay wage awards to federal civil servants, despite taking 10 months to decide on a new minimum wage figure. Only six months of the owed arrears have been paid, leaving four months unpaid per worker, totaling ₦140,000.

Atiku highlighted the arrest and detention of Comrade Andrew Uche Emelieze, who was organizing a peaceful protest for the payment of the overdue wages, as an example of the government's authoritarian approach to dissent.

He called for Emelieze's immediate release, stating that the government's failure to address the issue of wage arrears and its use of intimidation tactics against protestors are unacceptable in a democratic setting. He emphasized that the plight of the Nigerian workers is genuine and the government must take action to alleviate their suffering.
