The local government announced a state of emergency. Federal authorities constructed a facility capable of accommodating up to 2,600 deportees, featuring beds, showers, and chefs in white coats.

However, five months after Trump assumed office, the shelter is almost vacant. The number of deportees arriving has been so low — averaging 38 per day — that one of the two floors has been closed off.
