A 45-year-old Calgary man named Jason Allan Wilkening has been charged with 28 cases

In a recent incident reported by the Calgary Sun, a 45-year-old Calgary man named Jason Allan Wilkening has been charged with 28 offences following the theft of 17 firearms from the Calgary Shooting Centre on Fisher Road S.E. The burglary took place on June 28, with the thief making off with weapons worth over $26,000.

The suspect managed to break into the establishment and remove the firearms from a display case before fleeing the scene in a 2015 black Toyota 4 Runner, which was later found to be stolen. The Calgary Police Service has since recovered six of the stolen guns and apprehended Wilkening, who is now facing charges that include break and enter, weapons possession, handling stolen property, and failure to comply with a release order.

The investigation into the theft involved two search warrants executed at a home in the 400 block of Rundleson Place N.E. and the Airport Traveller's Inn at 1808 19 St. N.E. Wilkening is set to appear in court on July 8. The police are still seeking additional information about the incident and the whereabouts of the remaining stolen firearms.

The Calgary Shooting Centre has been the target of theft before, with a similar break-in occurring in 2022 that resulted in the loss of 22 firearms. The theft of firearms from licensed dealers remains a significant concern for law enforcement agencies, as such weapons can be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands.
