The first incident took place on Friday at 10 p.m., when a 16-year-old boy's vehicle struck a support post for an overhead sign and caught fire. He was the sole occupant of the car. The second crash on Sunday evening involved a Toyota that crossed the median and rolled into northbound traffic, resulting in a collision with a Dodge. The 25-year-old Toyota driver was ejected and did not survive, while the Dodge's 25-year-old female driver is in critical condition and the 22-year-old male passenger sustained minor injuries. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in either incident, but excessive speed is considered a factor. Additionally, there was a non-fatal motorcycle crash on Deerfoot Trail where the 18-year-old rider lost control and hit two vehicles, suffering serious injuries. The police are investigating these incidents and believe speed was a factor in the motorcycle accident as well. The motorcyclist is also thought to have been operating without the proper license. No further details have been released, and anyone with information is urged to contact the Calgary Police Service.
