Last week, the Governor had the distinct honor of hosting a reception to commemorate the centenary of the renowned Royal Far West. Founded on the shores of Manly Beach in 1924, the organization began as a vision to bring children from the far western regions of New South Wales to experience the joy of the seaside.

Over the years, it has evolved into a vital institution, creating a lasting legacy by connecting children from rural and remote areas with the specialized health care services they require. In expressing gratitude to the dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters, the Governor noted: "The specific health challenges faced by our regional and remote children may have changed over the past century, yet obstacles persist. Royal Far West has adapted to meet these evolving needs with unmatched innovation. From pioneering outreach health services throughout the State to providing world-class health and residential programs at its Manly base, Royal Far West has consistently excelled. The impact of these initiatives—enhancing the happiness, health, and lives of countless children and their families—is truly immeasurable. It embodies a spirit of compassion, showcasing communities united in care for one another, exemplifying our highest ideals.

" The evening also featured the world premiere of "With Our Feet in the Sand and Our Hearts in the Bush," performed by members of the Sydney Youth Orchestras. This choral piece, commissioned for the centenary celebration, was composed by Andrew Howes, the SYO's composer-in-residence, and is currently part of the SYO's "Big Sky Tour" across regional communities in New South Wales.
