The Calgary Police Service (CPS) is currently looking into an incident that occurred on Saturday, June 28, 2025, at a temporary market named Naija Market Day, which was set up outside City Hall at 800 Macleod Tr. S.E.

The market event was authorized with the necessary permits. However, around 3 p.m., there was a collapse of a light standard and television screens, causing injuries to eight people. Seven adults and one youth were involved, and all were taken to the hospital for treatment. The injuries are not considered life-threatening.

In response to the emergency, temporary lane closures were implemented on Macleod Trail, but the area has now been reopened to traffic.

The General Investigations Unit of CPS is collaborating with Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) to determine the cause of the collapse.
