The team will be monitoring for violations such as loud exhausts and mufflers, excessive engine revving, squealing tires, and loud stereos, which are all covered under the Traffic Safety Act. The goal is to enhance the livability of neighborhoods by reducing noise pollution that can have detrimental effects on residents' health and well-being.

Drivers can expect to be fined $270 for operating a vehicle over the legal noise limit and $300 for failing to comply during a noise level test. The team employs advanced tools such as calibrated decibel meters, noise sensors, and body-worn cameras to detect and document infractions. Enforcement efforts are prioritized in areas with high traffic complaints and noise reports.

Residents are encouraged to report noisy vehicles through the 311 system, which helps the city identify problem areas and allocate enforcement resources accordingly. The Traffic Safety Team aims to create more peaceful communities by promoting respectful driving behavior and vehicle maintenance, as well as educating the public about the negative impacts of excessive vehicle noise. The initiative is part of the broader effort to improve overall road safety and quality of life in Calgary.
