The Calgary Police Service (CPS) has laid charges against two men in connection with an incident that resulted in an officer-involved shooting on June 6, 2025. The incident occurred at approximately 12:20 a.m., when officers conducted a traffic stop in the 600 block of 25 Avenue S.E. A passenger in the stopped vehicle was believed to have pointed a handgun at officers just before the stop. The officers were in plainclothes but had police vests on.

One of the men, Tomy Loranger, 32, from Calgary, has been charged and is set to appear in court on June 13, 2025. The exact charges are detailed in the official release. The other individual, Cheth Mackonne Mitchell, 36, from Chestermere, was charged with breaching a release order and is scheduled to appear in court on June 16, 2025.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is still investigating the shooting itself and thus, the CPS cannot provide more information at this time.
