The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) has provided an update on the ongoing negotiations with Canada Post.

The union's negotiating committees had a meeting with federal mediators to discuss the proposed Terms of Reference for a binding interest arbitration process, which was requested by the federal government's Minister for Jobs and Families, Patty Hajdu.
However, Canada Post has indicated that it is not interested in reaching an agreement on these terms, suggesting that they have no hope of finding common ground and refusing to engage in substantial discussions.

Canada Post's stance is to use the Industrial Inquiry Commission's (IIC) recommendations as the foundation for the arbitration process. The union believes this approach is biased and would allow the company to dictate the terms of the agreements, rather than achieving a fair and balanced outcome through negotiation. As a result, CUPW remains committed to entering arbitration under equitable terms that respect the union and its members.

The national overtime ban initiated by the union is still in place as a means to continue the fight for a fair deal. The union is calling on its members to stay mobilized and ready to take further action if necessary. The situation emphasizes the importance of collective bargaining and the need for a process that genuinely considers the needs and rights of postal workers in Canada.
