Prime Minister Mark Carney expressed optimism that Canada will join a significant European defense rearmament initiative by July 1, aiming to decrease the country's reliance on the United States for weapons and ammunition.

These comments were made on CBC's Power & Politics after the throne speech, which committed his government to participate in ReArm Europe. Although the speech did not provide a specific timeline, Carney emphasized his intention to act swiftly. "Seventy-five cents of every dollar spent on defense capital goes to the United States.
