On May 23, 2025, at 11:58 a.m., the Alberta RCMP in Strathmore responded to a report regarding a suspect allegedly armed with a firearm at Strathmore High School. In light of the information received, the RCMP advised the school and nearby buildings to implement lockdown procedures.

Upon arrival, the RCMP swiftly located the suspect, who was taken into custody without any incidents occurring.

Preliminary investigations have indicated that there was no actual threat to anyone. The suspect was found to be in possession of a water pistol and was engaged in the "Senior Assassin" game, which has been popular among graduating students throughout Canada. While this game is intended to be harmless, the RCMP urges participants to remain aware that an observer might mistake a water gun for a real firearm. Please exercise caution and prioritize safety.
