The search for a 12-year-old boy who was swept away by floodwaters in Albemarle County, Virginia, resumed on Wednesday morning, following intense efforts that had been paused overnight due to limited visibility and safety concerns for the rescue personnel.

The incident occurred after heavy rainfall caused flash flooding across parts of Virginia, western Maryland, and Pennsylvania, with significant impacts reported in the mid-Atlantic region. In Westernport, Maryland, around 150 students and 50 staff members had to be evacuated from Westernport Elementary School by boat as the floodwaters reached the second floor. Emergency responders had to make 15 boat trips to ensure everyone's safety and move them to higher ground. Other schools in the area were also affected, prompting additional evacuations and shelter-in-place orders. Residents are advised not to attempt their own search and rescue operations due to the continuing hazardous conditions.
