Although Carney is new to the political arena, he is a prominent figure in international finance and climate advocacy, having led both the Bank of Canada and the Bank of England, and established the Glasgow Financial Alliance for Net Zero. Canada is still far from meeting its legally required target of achieving net zero emissions by 2050 and ranks among the highest in the world for per capita emissions. With Carney now in office, the question remains: can he leverage his global climate expertise to shape effective domestic policies, or will climate initiatives take a backseat as he focuses on preparing Canada for a potential trade conflict with the US?
