WestJet Flight to Tokyo Returns to Calgary Due to Mechanical Issue On Friday, a WestJet flight from Calgary to Tokyo had an unexpected turn of events, landing back in Calgary later that evening.

The airline reported the incident on Saturday, explaining that WestJet flight 80 encountered a mechanical issue while at cruising altitude, prompting the flight crew to change course and return to Calgary International Airport.

"In the interest of safety, the flight crew made the decision to return to Calgary, where the aircraft landed without incident for necessary maintenance," stated a WestJet spokesperson. To assist affected passengers, the airline has arranged for two additional flights.

The first, WS4180, departed Calgary at 1 p.m. on Saturday en route to Narita Airport in Tokyo. The second, WestJet flight 4182, is scheduled to leave Narita Airport for Calgary on Monday at 2:30 p.m. JST (Japan Standard Time). "We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this has caused and are committed to ensuring our guests reach their destinations safely and promptly," the spokesperson added in an email.
