First Alert Weather Day: Tornado risk poses a threat to central Alabama on Saturday evening
PDS Tornado Watch has been issued for 27 counties in Alabama until 8 p.m.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - FIRST ALERT WEATHER DAY: Supercell thunderstorms originating from Mississippi are advancing into Alabama at a rapid pace of 50 mph. These storms have already caused damage in Mississippi.

Severe weather is currently affecting West Alabama and is expected to reach the I-65 corridor by 5 p.m. These storms may generate winds exceeding 50 mph, hail larger than 1 inch, and the potential for tornadoes.

A rare high risk (level 5/5) has been extended overnight to encompass all of central Alabama. It is crucial to have a reliable method for receiving watches and warnings should they be issued.

A Particularly Dangerous Situation (PDS) Tornado Watch remains in effect until 8 p.m. for the following Alabama counties:

This watch includes the cities of Alabaster, Aliceville, Anniston, Birmingham, Brent, Carrollton, Centreville, Clanton, Columbiana, Demopolis, Eutaw, Fayette, Fort Deposit, Gadsden, Greensboro, Haleyville, Hamilton, Hoover, Jacksonville, Jasper, Linden, Livingston, Lowndes Boro, Marion, Millbrook, Montgomery, Moody, Moundville, Oneonta, Pelham, Pell City, Prattville, Rockford, Selma, Sulligent, Sylacauga, Talladega, Tuscaloosa, Uniontown, Vernon, Wetumpka, and York.

The storms are anticipated to exit the state after 11 p.m.

WBRC will maintain continuous coverage throughout the evening.
