A security threat at Calgary International Airport has led to an ongoing investigation. Adam MacVicar reports that this concern resulted in the cancellation of a WestJet flight to Ottawa.

On Wednesday, the RCMP responded to a security incident involving a WestJet flight scheduled to depart Calgary for Ottawa at 10:45 a.m., which was ultimately cancelled.

In a statement to Global News, WestJet confirmed that flight WS610 faced delays due to a security concern requiring a thorough investigation.

Passengers on a WestJet flight from Calgary to Ottawa were seen retrieving their luggage after being informed of the flight cancellation due to the security incident. One passenger, who wished to remain anonymous and identified herself as Jacqueline, recounted her experience while waiting to board. She described seeing several sniffer dogs and officers in fatigues boarding the plane.

"We were just in the jetway and about to board when they told us to head back down the gangway without offering an explanation," Jacqueline said. "We were taken out of security, rescanned, and had bomb tests done on our hands. I believe it was a precautionary measure, but I'm not sure how credible the threat was."

Another passenger, Josh Triemstra, noted a strong police presence around the gate area.

"I initially thought it might just be an unruly passenger, but then I noticed sniffer dogs outside the plane moving toward the cargo hold," Triemstra shared. "They informed us of a security breach and asked everyone to exit through the gate. We lined up single file, showed our IDs and boarding passes, and had our belongings screened while undergoing hand swabs."
WestJet passenger Josh Triemstra reported a significant police presence at the Calgary airport on Wednesday morning, which included sniffer dogs, just before his flight to Ottawa was canceled. He stated that passengers were left waiting for over four hours before WestJet finally announced the cancellation.

In response to the situation, WestJet mentioned that they were making efforts to ensure that guests could continue their journeys safely. While some travelers managed to book later flights, others indicated they would have to spend the night in Calgary.
