According to the RCMP, at approximately 3:03 a.m., police pulled over a pickup vehicle on Highway 2A and found reason to arrest the driver and a passenger for possessing unstamped cigarettes under the Excise Act. The passenger was sought on outstanding warrants, and a taser, a prohibited weapon, was discovered during the driver's search. During the search, officers discovered oxycodone tablets, fentanyl, illegal unstamped tobacco, a small amount of Canadian cash, cocaine, including cocaine individually wrapped for sale, and other items associated to the selling of cocaine. A 40-year-old guy from Red Deer County was accused of having cocaine in his possession for the purpose of trafficking, oxycodone, fentanyl, noncompliance with release terms, possession of an unstamped tobacco product, and possession of a prohibited weapon.
A 27-year-old Sylvan Lake woman was accused of possessing unstamped tobacco, oxycodone, fentanyl, and cocaine with the intent to sell these substances. Both accused were given conditional releases. The Alberta Court of Justice in Red Deer has scheduled its next court hearing for March 27.
