In a gesture of love and concern for their community on behalf of all Australians, President Peter Bongiorni and the Queensland Ukrainian Club extended a warm welcome to the Governor-General for lunch on the third anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine.

The Governor-General recognized the resiliency and fortitude of the Ukrainian community, as well as their anguish and grief, especially for those who have loved ones in Ukraine. She considered the significance of their community belonging as a part of ours and their stories weaving together with ours as part of our contemporary narrative. A Ukrainian banner signed by the 10th battalion from Kyiv district was later welcomed by the Governor-General on behalf of Australians as a deeply symbolic present from Father Yuri, who thanked the people for their support during their frontline battle. She expressed gratitude to Inna, Svitlana, Elizabeth, and Masha for making a delectable traditional meal and was given kolach bread and salt in a rushnyk traditional embroidered fabric as a token of great respect, hospitality, and friendliness.
