After being kept in different places across the world, these artworks, which were stolen by British forces during a raid on the royal palace in Benin City in 1897, will now be returned to their native nation. Dutch News claims that the Benin Bronzes were first taken during the British colonial war and are now spread throughout private collections and museums throughout the world, including establishments like the Metropolitan Museum of London and New York Museum of Art.

 The majority of the objects that the Netherlands is currently returning were housed at the Wereldmuseum, a world heritage museum in Rotterdam.
