Alberta RCMP arrest suspect in 2018 shooting of Toronto rapper Smoke  Dawg.
A suspect in the  2018 fatal shooting of Toronto rapper Smoke Dawg was arrested during a traffic stop in the Calgary area earlier this  week.
RCMP say officers were  conducting a speeding patrol along Edmonton Trail NE in Airdrie on Monday when they stopped a vehicle for speeding and illegal  tinting of windows.
Police said further investigation  by officers suggested the vehicle  had been stolen and  while attempting to make an arrest, the male passenger attempted to flee the scene. Officers caught the suspect on foot and found a loaded  .40-caliber handgun on him as they took him into  custody.
Investigators say the suspect gave them  a false  identity, but police were able to determine  that he was wanted on warrants  across Canada stemming from the 2018  murders of Jahvante Smart, also known as Smoke Dawg, and Ernest Modekwe, known as Koba Prime. A woman who was also shot in the same incident  survived.
The suspect was wanted on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. He now  faces more than a dozen additional  charges, including five  firearms offences, possession of stolen property over $5,000 and two counts of resisting  arrest.
Police have not  identified the man  because he was a minor at the time of the Toronto  shooting.
Toronto police told CityNews they  do not know when the suspect  will return to Toronto to face  charges. Abdulkadir Handule was arrested in 2019 by  British Columbia police in connection with the shooting. He was  convicted of two counts of second-degree murder, as well as aggravated assault and discharge of a firearm in  2022.
A 25-year-old  British Columbia resident, Alysha Chand,  faces two  charges, including possession of stolen property over $5,000 in connection with the traffic  stop.
Chand and the suspect are scheduled to appear in  Calgary District Court on  Thursday.
