South Korean  President Arrested After Dramatic Hours-Long Clashes South Korean authorities have arrested President Yoon  Suk-yeol on charges of  sedition after an attempt to impose martial  law.
Yoon is  currently being held by the Corruption Investigation  Bureau (CIB) - he said he agreed to  be questioned "even though it is an illegal investigation, to  avoid any  unpleasant bloodshed".
Authorities issued the  arrest warrant after an hours-long  clash with his security staff and supporters,  during which investigators  used ladders and  wire cutters to enter Yoon's  residence.
Yoon had been  on the run for weeks - investigators tried to arrest him earlier this month but  failed.
This is the first time in South  Korean history that a sitting president has been  arrested.
Yoon's impeachment trial, which will decide  whether he  should be removed from office,  began yesterday but ended  in four minutes  due to his  absence.
The past few hours have been  turbulent, with South Korean  President Yoon Suk Yeol  becoming the country's first sitting president to be arrested.
We're  wrapping up our live  coverage, but here's a look at what happened in Seoul today:
Yoon had fortified his residence with barbed wire and buses  before today's arrest attempt, but investigators  arrived with wire cutters and ladders and  forced their way  inside.
Emotions ran high as protesters gathered outside.  Yoon's supporters  cried and lay on the ground  as news of his  arrest spread, while anti-Yoon protesters  cheered.
Yoon is now being questioned by investigators,  although the  IOC said he  had exercised his right to remain  silent.
Woon can now be held  in custody for 48 hours, but  could be released  if investigators  do not obtain a  new detention  order to  keep him for 20 days. He will  spend the night in  a detention center in Seoul.
And even if Yoon  is arrested,  the political crisis  in South Korea is  not over.
