City of Calgary says more than 5,000 people have applied  to collect bricks from Olympic  Plaza

The City of Calgary says it has received  requests from 5,105 people who want their  carved bricks  saved from Olympic Plaza before the plaza is demolished as part of the upcoming Olympic Plaza  transformation project.
The registration period for people who want  to collect their bricks  began on  December 10 and  ended on  Wednesday.
The city says people who  have submitted applications will receive an email  on Thursday  informing them  that their application has been  received.

However, the city says it may not be possible to remove all of them intact  due to a number of factors, including their age (40  years), previous damage and the materials used in the construction and installation of the  square's bricks.

People who registered for their bricks will receive a second email,  starting January 3, 2025,  informing them  whether their brick was successfully  collected and if the city was able to recover it intact, they will  receive information on  how to retrieve their brick on  January. 3 or  4.
