Early on Wednesday morning, some residents of Calgary saw what looked like a meteor blazing across the sky.

Just after 6:30 a.m., several viewers of CTV News submitted footage of a light moving through the sky over the city.

The night sky is briefly illuminated by a dazzling flash before fading back into the darkness and out of sight.

They can affirm it was a fireball meteor after seeing the event's footage, according to Robyn Foret, president of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada's Calgary Centre.

In an emailed statement, Foret stated, "We are currently experiencing the Southern Taurids and Northern Taurids meteor showers."

"They do overlap starting on September 23." to December 8 of this year, and they are renowned for having a lot of fireballs even if their meteor count isn't that high. That's probably what we witnessed this morning.

Shannon Bibe, who lives in the Richmond neighbourhood, captured the incident on camera in her backyard. Bibe claimed that although she did not witness the fireball directly, this was the first time she has ever documented such an incident on camera.

Additionally, the Walia family submitted a photo of the meteor, calling it a "fireball," which might be viewed from their northwest residence, facing south in the city.

They claimed that after watching the news and learning about a potential meteor sighting, they checked their home's camera.

According to the American Meteor Society, 141 reports of a fireball (opens in a new tab) over Alberta, British Columbia, Saskatchewan, and numerous northern states were received.
