According to the Ministry of Health in British Columbia, the province has discovered the first possible human case of avian flu in Canada.Not a valid attachment ID.

According to a statement from the provincial health officer's office, an adolescent in the Fraser Health service area tested positive for bird flu and is presently receiving treatment at BC Children's Hospital.




According to the announcement, the BC Centre for Disease Control performed the positive test, and samples are en route to the national microbiology lab in Winnipeg for additional testing.

It states that in order to determine the exposure source and identify potential contacts, public health officials are also investigating the case.

According to Dr. Bonnie Henry, the provincial health officer, it is "a rare event" and only a few Human cases of bird flu, which is brought on by the avian influenza virus's H5N1 subtype, have been found both domestically and internationally.

According to the statement, the teen's exposure to the virus most likely came from an animal or bird, and the province's top veterinarian and public health officials are looking into it.
