Skurka's captors wanted the money electronically as the clock was ticking down—no trickery, no trails.

A few hours later, he was set free in a quiet area of Centennial Park, shaken but not hurt.

Crypto security professionals caution that these high-stakes, cloak-and-dagger kidnappings are only getting started as Bitcoin hits all-time highs.
