The body of the victim, a male in his 30s, was discovered among the wreckage of three homes on Benwell, Newcastle's Violet Close.

Six apartments along the street were destroyed in the Wednesday bomb, which occurred at around 00:45 BST.

Gas service employees are still on the scene as emergency services and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) conduct an investigation.

According to Northumbria Police, the two deceased have not yet been formally identified.

All but one of the five people and a kid who were admitted to the hospital with various levels of injury were released after receiving treatment.
