IQALUIT The passengers of an Air India flight that landed in Iqaluit due to a bomb threat are still detained there, according to Canada's minister of emergency preparedness, and he has granted a request for the military to assist them.

Late on Tuesday, Harjit Sajjan wrote on X that the airline "hasn't found a solution" following the plane's earlier landing in the capital of Nunavut with 211 passengers on board day, claiming to be "stranded."

The post claims that despite tremendous efforts, Iqaluit is ill-equipped to house the passengers. According to him, Transport Minister Anita Anand advised him to approve the use of Canadian Forces resources to "ease the pressure on Iqaluit and send passengers safely to their destination in Chicago."

In a separate X post, Defence Minister Bill Blair stated that the government had authorized a request for an airlift to transport the individuals to Chicago.

Air India Flight 127 was scheduled to arrive in Chicago from New Delhi, but it arrived at the Iqaluit International Airport at 5:21 a.m. on Tuesday, according to the RCMP.

Earlier in the day, Air India stated that the landing was a precaution adding that "a number of threats" that were later shown to be fakes were made against it and other airlines in recent days.
