After finishing up in the next weeks, he's excited to travel and spend time at the beach.

The chief of staff to Premier Danielle Smith and the head of the Alberta government's drug policy, began discussing his departure from the position in January.

They decided that if he was going to leave, now would be a good time, before the lawmakers return to the legislature, even if he was urged to stay.

As Premier Smith's current right-hand man, Rob Anderson will take on the role of chief of staff.

Marshall Smith will be most recognized for spearheading the charge on getting addicts off drugs and staying off drugs.

His recuperation is his main priority and even though he didn't win many friends among the activist population, he is more persuaded than ever that this is the proper course of action.

Smith talks on reducing the number of drug-related overdose deaths on this day, despite the fact that he is on his way out.

According to him, the figures are declining and they don't lie.

His illustration?

There were 17 overdose deaths in Calgary in May of this year compared to 70 in May of last year.

Smith's life narrative is well known and serves as evidence that he wasn't concocting some plot from an ivory tower textbook.

You see, Smith worked in politics back in the day and at the end of his life.
