Train Derailment Incident along Abuja-Kaduna Corridor

A passenger train bound for Kaduna derailed at Asham, along the Abuja-Kaduna route, on Tuesday, August 26, 2025. The train, which departed from Abuja at 9:45, experienced a derailment incident at approximately KM 49 between Kubwa Station and Asham Station. The incident resulted in several carriages going off the tracks, causing panic among the passengers on board.

Fortunately, as of the latest updates, there have been no confirmed casualties reported. However, some passengers may have sustained minor injuries during the evacuation process. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) promptly responded to the incident by dispatching emergency responders, including security and medical personnel, to the site. These responders are working to assist stranded passengers and assess the situation.

An investigation into the cause of the derailment is currently underway. Authorities are exploring possible factors, including vandalism, mechanical issues such as hot axles, or other disruptions along the route. The Nigerian Railway Corporation is committed to determining the root cause of the incident and taking necessary measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.

The NRC is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the safety of all passengers and to restore normal rail services along the Abuja-Kaduna corridor as soon as possible. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
